Shuehei Matsuyama

From January 8th to 16th, 2025, iKonica Art Gallery is honored to renew, after a year, the exhibition appointment with Master Shuhei MATSUYAMA with a solo exhibition.

Free entry

The gallery provides the artist with three rooms to offer the widest possible overview of Master Matsuyama’s works.
In the main room, Sala Zenzero, there will be a collection of paintings on wood and canvas in various sizes, some of which are large-scale. In Sala Slimmy, an installation titled “Diario” will be presented, while Sala Olly will be dedicated to the painting project “Shin-on.”

A special immersive opportunity to better understand how Shuhei Matsuyama navigates through his life and art.
When asked, “Why do you work?” he responds: “To grow.”
“Why do you want to grow?” “To know myself.”
“Why do you want to know yourself?” “To express myself.”
“Why do you want to express yourself?” “To be an artist (a man).”
“Why do you want to be an artist?” “To be free.”
“Why do you want to be free?” “To find joy in life.”

While visiting the exhibition, we are confident that the visitors will understand the “delicate strength” of his works. Moving through the three rooms, the audience will inevitably notice an intense yet soft energy emanating from the combination of elements observed on each surface, where layers of paper and colors of various shades blend together to create an outcome of absolute refinement.
Like the notes of a musical score merging to form a specific harmony, the order, balance, atmosphere, and light seem to compose a silent melody.

“LIVE PERFORMANCE” on the occasion of the Finissage – Thursday, January 16th from 6:30 PM
We hope to please the audience by offering the opportunity to see Master Matsuyama working live as he creates a mixed media painting that is part of the “Diario” project.
